INFORMS Chapter and Advisor Win National Awards

The Texas A&M student chapter of INFORMS (Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences) was the inaugural recipient of the Student Chapter Award Summa Cum Laude presented at the recent INFORMS 2007 Annual Meeting in Seattle . This is the highest distinction given to a student chapter; and it recognizes outstanding participation, performance, and achievements. On hand to receive the award was Panitan Kewcharoenwong, graduate student in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.

The chapter, which organized in 2004, currently has 287 members from 20 different departments across the university. The goals of the group are to encourage interest in the field of operations research and management sciences, to provide communication and networking opportunities, to facilitate an informal exchange of information about educational programs and opportunities as well as OR/MS methods and techniques, and to present a forum of speakers on OR/MS.

Also winning a national award from INFORMS was chapter advisor, Halit Üster, Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Dr. Üster was presented with the Moving Spirit Award for service to the chapter.
