Dr. Phillips' teaching and research interests include manufacturing systems analysis, operations research, lean thinking and lean manufacturing , systems simulation, product cost analysis and the analysis and control of remanufacturing/sustainment systems. Dr. Phillips currently holds the Chevron Professorship in engineering. He is an IIE Fellow and a member of SME.
