Dr. Uster's
research focuses on development of large-scale optimization models and efficient solution
algorithms for design of networked systems including
multi-commodity flow transportation networks,
production/distribution networks with inventory considerations,
closed-loop logistics networks (funded by NSF),
resilient telecommunication networks, and
wireless sensor networks (funded by NSF).
His publications to date appeared in IIE Transactions, Naval
Research Logistics, European Journal of Operational Research, Computers and Operations Research,
Computers and Mathematics with Applications, and Journal of Applied Mathematics and Decision Sciences.
His doctoral study at McMaster was supported
by a postgraduate scholarship from NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of
Canada).
Before joining the IE department in 2002, he held faculty positions at
the IE Department of the University of Alabama, where he has been voted
Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year (1999-2000) by the IIE Student Chapter,
and at the Mays Business School of Texas A&M.
He serves as an Associate Editor for IIE Transactions:
Logistics and Scheduling and also as a member of the INFORMS Subdivisions Council.
He is a member of INFORMS and IIE,
and a former faculty advisor of the INFORMS Student Chapter at Texas A&M.
He is a recipient of the INFORMS Moving Spirit Award in 2007.
